Freya & Chris’s Sussex marquee wedding was a truly DIY affair. They lavished a huge amount of time & organisation on it & the results made it all worth it, while making it easy for me as a wedding photographer with so much of interest to photograph. Chris was determined it would be eco friendly & even dug the toilets & decked them out with swathes of material & flowers. Freya made everything down to the groomsmen’s ties & the marquee itself came from India.
On the day we were blessed with beautiful clear blue skies which meant gorgeous light for me to work with. At their house, while Freya was getting ready, the light washed round the white walls meaning I could get lovely skin tones & clear colours, that’s half the work for me as a wedding photographer. When Freya’s dad, Simon, arrived, we all had a very emotional moment when he first saw her in her dress.
The church in Graffham was totally packed & saw a lovely service with a French Horn recital & touching readings. We emerged to a beautiful summers day & Freya & Chris rode off to the reception in a vintage Daimler.
The reception was in Freya’s parent’s garden & started with a tug of war that Freya won convincingly! I then managed to separate them from their friends and take just the two of them off for some couples wedding photography. It provided some much needed time for the two of them to have a few moments together & for me to get some intimate shots of them being completely natural & relaxed. The festival feel to the day continued with lovely tasty food being dished out from a van. The speeches in the marquee were touching & funny & the evening continued with lots of dancing & laughing. It was great to see that all the effort they had put in was worth it as all their friends & family partied the night away. Truly one of the best weddings of the year!
